Home is a place to unwind, be yourself, relax and find a few moments of peace tranquility. While being a mum and having a noisy messy toddler and a small dependent baby doesn’t feel very ‘tranquil’ more like a mad house. I think it’s still important (and something I want to aim to do more) to find moments of peace, it helps ground you and make you feel happier and stronger, so you can face the madness better. It might just be a still moment on the couch to unwind after a busy day, a moment to read or work on a personal project while the bubs are napping, a cup of tea or sitting out in the garden looking up at the stars (the other night Henry was up late so we sat out the back for a few minutes and looked at the stars, in the cool evening air after a hot day. He gazed up with such awe and amazement, and kept talking about the stars the next day. It was relaxing and very special).
I think special little unique touches to your home can help create this relaxed environment. Ever have fond memories of a little cushion corner where you read books, a day bed you sat on to relax , a lovely candle that softened the evening and brought calming scents, a curtain blocking out the summer sun flapping in the breeze keeping your room cool, an outdoor chair you sat in and watched the stars, a special tea cup that you enjoyed a warm cuppa in, a string of pretty lights that added a calming mood in the evening? I find I always remember these sorts of things fondly, and want to recreate the feeling they brought.
